FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What Do You Mean By Teaching Independence?

We’re not rep-counters that merely shout exercise commands. Making an investment in fitness is a big financial decision. But your investment isn’t for the trainer to stand there & dictate reps for you. Your investment is made towards your education: Education in competency of your body in making better long-term decisions. Competency that can transfer to other aspects of life, relationship, & in educating those around you. At what price do we place confidence? At what price do we place being pain free? At what price do we put the knowledge to know exactly what to do and how to do it on your own — independent from a trainer standing next to you? We won’t babysit you or count reps for you. We won’t spoon-feed you. We will teach you how to critically think in order to apply it towards your own body. We teach a man to fish for long-term, independent success. Please read The Manifesto statement released here.

Do You Train Both Men & Women?

Yes we train both men and women. However, it should be noted Arin Training specializes in men’s fitness, but welcomes all individuals. While there are pros and cons to gender specialization in fitness, there is a certain level of comfort, expertise, and necessary program adjustments that make such specialization ideal. This is similar to how a medical doctor would specialize in children (pediatrics) or a fitness club catering to women (e.g. Total Woman). Although we specialize in men, we welcome all individuals and may sometimes refer clients to other fitness professionals within the same facility based on goals, requests, or scheduling conflicts.

By networking with a close team of experienced professionals — all individuals are guaranteed to be matched with a personal trainer that fits their needs and comfort level. Read more about differences in training men versus women here.

How Do I Sign-Up & Begin?

To determine if making an investment in personal training is right for you, we offer a complimentary consultation and workout (approximately 45-minutes). Click on the Contact header or call 888-677-0499. The complimentary session will serve to educate both trainer and prospective trainee to decide if working together will be a right fit.

Once you’re ready to sign-up, all forms will be available via Google Drive/PDF. A weekly training schedule will be agreed upon mutually. Based on your fitness plan and obligations — you will workout two, three, or four times per week. All exercise programs will be posted online for access anytime with a free app for your mobile device. New programs are typically updated every 2-4 weeks.

How Many Workouts Per Week?

You won’t retain strength, speed, flexibility, or mobility without continued training — fitness isn’t a lifestyle, it’s a sacrifice. To incite positive changes in your body for base strength or maintenance we recommend lifting weights about twice per week. To incite more dramatic body-transformation -or- if you’re a beginner to weight-training, we recommend lifting weights about 3-4 times per week. Beginners need more repetition and exposure. This is similar to learning how to drive: The more hours you accumulate under your belt the better driver you’ll be. All said, remember the golden rule: Frequency is much better than volume (Frequency > Volume) for most fitness goals. This means working out 3 times in five days for just 45 minutes per workout is much more effective than 2 very long workouts (1-2 hours long). Your brain is wired to learn efficiently at shorter periods.

All this is ultimately dependent on how well you recover, how much stress you’re on, how well you sleep, and how much you want to invest in fitness with your budget. You may choose to hire a trainer for all your workouts or split them up between trainer workouts & solo workouts (e.g. 2 with trainer, 2 alone).

Are Workouts 1-Hour?

Exercise duration varies by individual goal and by plan. Prepaid plans (Essential, Premier, Master) are 55-65 minutes long. Monthly plans are 40-45 minutes. Most strength and flexibility training can be performed within said time period of 40 and 65 minutes if we structure the workout correctly. For example, a well-crafted 40-minute workout that reaches your lactic acid threshold is far more effective at burning fat than a moderate 1.5-hour workout with long rest periods & constantly checking your phone. There are obvious exceptions such as certain phases of exercise requiring longer rest, endurance athletes, or technique practice — but the vast majority of us can suffice with shorter workouts. Ultimately, workout duration is dependent recovery capability, flexibility, age, stress, goals, time constraints, adaptiveness, and fitness experience. These variables differ individually as there is no one-size-fits all answer. Choosing the right program (60-Minute Prepaid Plans versus 45-Minute Monthly Plans) therefore will play a role based on individual goal.

What About Stretching?

This is the most important part! Most injuries are caused by the way we train and the way we move (or lack thereof) over a long period of time. If you think your slight back pain is insignificant today, how do you think it will be 5 years from now if not addressed properly? Chances are it will be ten times worse. Remember: Are you moving poorly because you’re in pain? Or are you in pain because you’re moving poorly?

Implementing an effective stretching habit can & will address imbalances caused by improper training and movement. If you’re flexible with an ongoing routine that currently works for you — keep it up! But if you’re stiff, you must earn the privilege to weight-train by demonstrating proper joint mechanics and the willingness to stretch. Your joints are constructed to move relative to one another in specific ways & if you load them incorrectly (through negligent training or posture) you’re screwing with how your body was intended to function let alone perform in a weight room. Stretching will be a vital part of your holistic program & shall serve as the foundation for everything else!
